Paro Taktsang

Paro Taktsang, also known as the Tiger’s Nest Monastery, is a sacred Buddhist site perched on a cliffside in the Paro Valley, Bhutan. It is located at an altitude of 3,120 meters (10,240 feet) above sea level, approximately 900 meters (3,000 feet) above the valley floor.

Legend has it that Guru Padmasambhava (Guru Rinpoche), the founder of Tibetan Buddhism, flew to this site on the back of a tigress and meditated there in the 8th century, hence its name. The monastery complex was built in 1692 around the cave where Guru Rinpoche meditated.

The site is known for its spiritual significance, stunning architecture, and breathtaking views of the valley. Visitors must undertake a steep and challenging hike to reach the monastery, making it both a physical and spiritual journey.
