The Jomolhari Trek is one of Bhutan’s most popular high-altitude treks, taking you to the base of Mount Jomolhari, one of the most sacred mountains in Bhutan. This challenging trek offers incredible views of snow-capped peaks, remote highland villages, alpine meadows, and glacial rivers. Hikers will encounter diverse landscapes and spot unique wildlife, making it ideal for adventure seekers looking for both natural beauty and cultural depth.

Day 1: Arrival in Paro

Arrive at Paro International Airport. Our team will meet you and transfer you to your hotel. Spend the afternoon exploring Paro, with visits to Paro Rinpung Dzong and the National Museum.


 

Day 2: Acclimatization Hike to Tiger’s Nest Monastery (Taktsang)

Take a full day to acclimatize by hiking to the iconic Tiger’s Nest Monastery, perched dramatically on a cliffside. This is a great way to prepare for the altitude on the trek.


 

Day 3: Paro to Sharna Zampa (Trek Start)

Begin the trek from Paro to Sharna Zampa, following the Paro River through beautiful pine forests and small villages.

  • Altitude: 2,850 m

Day 4: Sharna Zampa to Thangthangkha

The trail winds through forests of pine, oak, and rhododendron, with gradual ascents and descents along the river. Catch your first glimpse of Mount Jomolhari on a clear day.

Day 5: Thangthangkha to Jangothang (Base Camp)

Trek to Jangothang, the base camp for Mount Jomolhari, with stunning views of the mountain. Along the way, pass yak pastures and take in the impressive valley scenery.

  • Altitude: 4,080 m
  • Overnight: Camping

 

Day 6: Acclimatization Day at Jangothang

Take a rest day to acclimatize, with optional day hikes to nearby lakes or ridges for panoramic views. Enjoy spectacular views of Mount Jomolhari and other peaks.

Day 7: Jangothang to Lingshi via Nyile La Pass

Cross Nyile La Pass (4,870 m) with breathtaking views of Jomolhari and other high peaks. Descend to the remote village of Lingshi, known for its dzong and picturesque landscape.

  • Altitude: 4,010 m
  • Overnight: Camping

 

Day 8: Lingshi to Shodu via Yale La Pass

Today’s route crosses Yale La Pass (4,930 m), one of the highest points on the trek. Enjoy sweeping views of the Himalayan range before descending into a lush valley filled with forests and waterfalls.

Day 9: Shodu to Barshong

Follow the trail through dense forests, past alpine meadows, and along the Thimphu River. End the day at Barshong, a peaceful village with a small dzong.

Day 10: Barshong to Dolam Kencho

Descend through forests and past small settlements, following the river to Dolam Kencho, a scenic valley where you’ll camp for the night.

Day 11: Dolam Kencho to Thimphu (Trek End)

The final day of trekking brings you down through forests to the end of the trail. Transfer to Thimphu, Bhutan’s capital, for some rest and sightseeing.

Day 12: Departure

Transfer to Paro International Airport for your departure, marking the end of your adventure in Bhutan.
